Barry Can't Swim
Barry Can’t Swim is the stage name of Joshua Spence Mainnie, a Scottish electronic music producer and DJ from Edinburgh. Working across house, breakbeat, dance music and jazz-inflected electronic production, he has released music through labels including Ninja Tune, Atlantic Records UK, Night Time Stories, Late Night Tales and Apollo Records.
Mainnie’s debut album, When Will We Land?, arrived on 20 October 2023. The record was shortlisted for the 2024 Mercury Prize and appeared on numerous critics’ end-of-year lists, bringing wider recognition to his work as Barry Can’t Swim.
He was nominated for Best Dance Act at the 2024 Brit Awards. In 2026, he received a Brit Award nomination in the Breakthrough Artist category.
