Baroness

John Baizley has been Baroness’s one constant since the band began in 2003, and his role extends beyond the music: he creates the artwork for every Baroness album as well as visual work for other bands. The group formed in Savannah, Georgia, while several of its early members had grown up together in Lexington, Virginia.

Baroness has worked across heavy metal’s sludge, stoner, doom, progressive and post-metal currents, with a sound that also reaches into stoner rock and progressive sludge. The band’s personnel has changed repeatedly over the years, but Baizley has remained its frontman through those shifts. Among the musicians who have been part of Baroness are Sebastian Thomson, Summer Welch, Allen Blickle, Brian Blickle, Tim Loose, Pete Adams, Gina Gleason, Matt Maggioni and Nick Jost.
