Answer Code Request

Answer Code Request is the stage name of German electronic musician and DJ Patrick Gräser. Working in and around techno, minimal techno, dub techno, microhouse, and related minimal and dub-leaning styles, he is associated with Berlin’s club culture and is known for productions that balance driving rhythm with detailed sound design.

Gräser began releasing music as Answer Code Request in the early 2010s and became closely linked with the Ostgut Ton circle after debuting on the label in 2012. He later became a resident DJ at Berghain, a role that positioned him as a regular presence within one of the city’s most visible techno institutions. Alongside his own records, he has produced remixes and additional material for labels connected to contemporary European techno and bass-oriented electronic music, including MDR, Dolly Deluxe, and Monkeytown Records.

As a producer, Answer Code Request’s work is rooted in club-focused techno but often departs from straightforward four-to-the-floor patterns, drawing on breaks and more syncopated drum programming. His tracks frequently pair dense low-end and percussive pressure with atmospheric elements associated with dub and ambient techno, placing him in proximity to dub techno and minimal dub as well as more functional, peak-time forms of techno. This hybrid approach has also made his music a fit for labels with different emphases, from deeper, dub-influenced techno to more experimental and bass-adjacent electronic releases.

As a DJ, Gräser has presented a style that reflects his production sensibilities, moving between heavy, bass-driven selections and more intricate rhythmic material. While he has played internationally, he remains identified with the Berlin scene through his residency and the network of labels and artists connected to it.
