Air

Air emerged from Versailles with a debut that became one of late-1990s electronic music's defining records. The French duo, made up of Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel, released Moon Safari in 1998, introducing the sleek, softly psychedelic sound associated with tracks such as “Sexy Boy.”

Godin and Dunckel have drawn on a broad range of musical styles and artists, folding electronic production into downtempo, ambient pop, trip hop and space-age pop. Their work often favors melody, texture and atmosphere over club-driven momentum, moving between intimate pop songs and more expansive instrumental passages.

After Moon Safari, Air wrote the score for Sofia Coppola’s first feature film, The Virgin Suicides. The project marked an early move into film music and became their follow-up album. The duo later released 10 000 Hz Legend, Talkie Walkie, Pocket Symphony, Love 2, Le voyage dans la lune and Music for Museum, extending a catalogue that ranges from song-focused electronic pop to soundtrack and installation-oriented work.
