A-Trak
Alain Macklovitch, known as A-Trak, came to prominence in 1997 when he won the World DMC scratching championship at age 15. Born in Montréal on March 30, 1982, he built his early reputation as a turntablist whose technical precision and scratching remained central to work that moved between hip-hop, electro, house and club music.
During the 2000s, A-Trak became an international club DJ and remix artist, bringing turntable routines into genre-spanning sets and productions. He also worked as Kanye West’s original tour DJ, a role that connected his battle-DJ background to large-scale touring. His professional work has extended across more than two decades, and Rolling Stone named him among its 50 Most Important People in EDM. Billboard and Complex have featured him on their covers, while he has also been called the Global Ambassador of DJ Culture.
In 2007, A-Trak founded Fool’s Gold Records and became its president. The label has been credited with developing the careers of Kid Cudi, Danny Brown and Flosstradamus. Alongside his solo DJ, production and executive work, he formed Duck Sauce with Armand Van Helden. The duo’s “Barbra Streisand” received a Grammy nomination in 2012, adding a major collaborative success to A-Trak’s work as a performer, producer and label head.
